The Sao Paulo Forum and the Puebla Group met on June 27–29 in Honduras to plan their new authoritarian offensive in the region, under the auspices of Xiomara Castro’s socialist administration. Maribel Espinoza, a Honduran Congresswoman, fears the incumbent government will not approve the budget of the National Electoral Council in time. This would prevent the timely holding of the primary elections of the opposition parties.
Espinoza is a precandidate for the presidency. She asserts that, if she wins in the November 2025 elections, she will implement a series of liberal reforms to curb entrenched corruption in the institutions and promote legal security to attract investment to the country.
