IO Podcast | Episode 62
The battle of ideas waged by socialism is far from over. We see it in the Cuban regime’s narratives to convince its citizens that the misery they endure is due to the US embargo. It is also present in the classrooms of public institutions under Mexico’s socialist-authoritarian regime, now led by Claudia Sheinbaum.
Joanna Guerra —a classical-liberal lawyer, philosopher, and university professor in Mexico— explains young generations often lack an entrepreneurial mindset given the ideological indoctrination they receive through schools, films, music, and more. That is why she believes that transmitting the principles of classical liberalism requires translating philosophical ideas into everyday experiences.
In her book Ser Libre es Cool, Guerra brings market-based innovation to life using real-world examples like Uber, Airbnb, and other apps. These solutions have not only benefited their creators but society at large. She also shares stories of prominent entrepreneurs like Mark Zuckerberg to inspire youth to embrace entrepreneurship and create initiatives beyond the reach of the state.
The English version of her book, Being Free Is Cool: Eight Ways to Make It Happen, will be available on Amazon by early June.
