Claudia Amaya, a Honduran lawyer and politician, is running for a legislative candidacy in the primary election of the Liberal Party. Traditional and founded in 1891, the Liberal Party is now the chief rival to the ruling Libre party.

In this podcast episode, Amaya—executive director of the Honduran Palm Oil Industry Association (AIPAH)—shares her political career and her motivation to be a candidate. She analyzes the political and economic challenges that the country is facing under the mandate of Xiomara Castro and proposes a way forward.

As Honduras struggles with high unemployment, emigration, and crime, Amaya explains that strengthening the rule of law is pivotal. In that way, she contends, Honduras can attract more foreign investors and, maybe, the companies that have left the country during the Castro regime will return.
